Interchange A15 N3
Year: 2018 to date
Client: Strukton
Location: Netherlands
Fields of Expertise: Roads, Damage Risk Assessment
Strukton is replacing the current connection between highway A15 and provincial roads N3 and N214 with a quarter cloverleaf interchange. This will reduce traffic jams on the A15 highway. The new lanes for the interchange cross the Sophia railwaytunnel twice. Strict boundary conditions apply to the design and construction method of the new interchange, to ensure minimal risk of damage to the tunnel.
Embankment with 1000 piles
Settlements caused by construction need to be minimalised to reduce risks not only for the railway tunnel, but also the nearby highway and gas main. In addition, contract requirements state all new lanes need to be free of residual settlements. To solve both design challenges, we opted to design a piled embankment. As an added bonus, the embankment provided a safe working platform for the cranes to place the bridge.
The design of all embankments, piled embankments, lightweight constructions, soil nailing an foundations, including detailed calculations of the effect of construction on the railway tunnel, site engineering and analyses of monitoring results are made by Arthe Civil & Structure.
