The “Interne Baan” is a private highway which provides the direct connection between the new Logistics Park Moerdijk and the existing Moerdijk seaport area. The “Interne Baan” is designed with various engineering structures; the river Roode Vaart is the first to be crossed starting from the current Port of Moerdijk. The A17 motorway is crossed with a viaduct before the “Interne Baan” connects with the Moerdijk Logistics Park. In the future, the Interne Baan will also be used for autonomous truck traffic between the two areas.
Arthe Civil & Structure provides Boskalis with the geotechnical design of the renewed connection and delivers the necessary validations to the Port of Moerdijk, Rijkswaterstaat and the Waterboard Brabantse Delta that proves the preconditions are met and the new road does not affect the existing infrastructure.

 

Impact

On the east side of the Roode Vaart lies the primary water defence system that must be fitted in to the “Interne Baan”. The local access roads will be maintained. Towards the A17, the internal roadway is elevated above the existing ground level. East of the A17, the internal road connects to the elevated ground level of the Logistics Park Moerdijk.
Arthe Civil & Structure designed the following:
• Reinforced soil at the abutments and connections to the existing infrastructure;
• Foundation design for the bridges Roode Vaart and A17;
• 3D models for pre-loading and indicating the influence on the existing infrastructure;
• Various settlement accelerating measures, such as soil improvement, additional pre-loading, drainage and associated monitoring;
• Influence calculations near the existing pumping station. Plaxis calculations provide insight into the soil displacements and are used to predict the required monitoring.

The project was put on the market by the Moerdijk Port Authority as an EMVI tender. Our previous experience with this type of tender enabled us to support Boskalis in generating a winning offer and a state of the art design.
