Renovation N214

Renovation N214

The provincial road of N214 between A15 and A27 is set to have major maintenance works over a length of 22.5 km with it connected to the reconstructed A15/N214/N3 project on the west side. This includes a series of extensions to structures, roundabouts, crossings and widening of cycle paths to improve traffic flow and road safety. The project is currently in the design phase.

Key highlights of the project:

N214-N216 intersection

The existing foundation construction of concrete mattress on wooden piles at the entire N214-N216 intersection will be considerably extended in all directions with similar construction on concrete piles to prevent settlement differences.
The two bridges on the east side of the Smoutjesvliet crossing will also be renewed with addition of a new bicycle/pedestrian bridge on the south side of the existing bridges.

Minkeloos Connection

On the west side of the existing Minkeloos-N214, a new junction will be constructed with a safe bicycle crossing in connection with the A27. The design of the supposedly new junction will be quite challenging due to the presence of approximately 10 meters of soft soil at the decided location. A comprehensive variant study was conducted for the geotechnical design of the embankments (settlement and stability). All variant studies show that the ground conditions pose challenges to force sufficient settlements within a certain amount of time, while achieving a stable embankment.
